LISZT - Mephisto Waltz No.1 S 110/2
BRUCH - Violin Concerto No.1 in G minor Op.26
SIBELIUS - Symphony No.1 E minor Op.39

Guest Artist, Sulki Yu returns to HSO in 'Fire & Ice', a program riding through darkness and passion, capturing human extremes. Liszt’s Mephisto Waltz No. 1 conjures a diabolical whirl of firey seduction and abandon, where virtuosity meets dark temptation. In contrast, Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 speaks to the heart, its noble themes and tender lyricism forming a timeless love letter for violin and orchestra. The journey culminates in Sibelius’s Symphony No. 1, evoking vast icy landscapes and fierce Finnish spirit. With brooding beauty and surging vitality, Sibelius transforms the Romantic symphony into something deeply personal and elemental. From the haunting clarinet opening to tempestuous finale, he captures both solitude and strength of the northern world. Together, these Romantic visions blaze with passion, poetry, and unyielding spirit.
